markets.
Further, we have granted to the aforenamed bishop, and to his successors, that the bishops,
deans and canons of Salisbury, and their successors, and all their men from all their fiefs,
may be free for ever from tolls throughout our land, from suits of court of shire and
hundred, from upkeep of fortifications, and from all other feudal services.
Moreover, we have granted to the often-mentioned bishop and to his successors, that, even if,
in the course of time, by whatever mischance, they have not used some or any of the
privileges which we have granted, nevertheless they may resume, notwithstanding, the
aforesaid privileges.
Furthermore, all the aforesaid franchises, free practices and exemptions we have granted, on
behalf of us and our heirs, and have confirmed by the present charter, to God and to the
Church of Saint Mary, New Sarum, and to the above-mentioned bishop and his
successors, in free, unconditional & perpetual alms [2]. For this reason, therefore, it is
our wish and our firm command that they themselves should have and should hold these
for ever, and the aforesaid dean and canons, and their successors, and all their men, lands
and fiefs, and all men of those fiefs, and other fiefs of the bishop himself, and all men of
those fiefs, should have the aforesaid franchises, free practices and exemptions, by right
and in peace, wholly and fully, in all things and places, exactly as defined above.
