1968

               The Roebuck public house was refurbished and now had an electric organ, thus becoming
               the first pub in Wokingham with live music.
               1969

               A serious fire destroyed a lot of the interior of Ye Olde Rose Inn.

               1971

               Reginald Child, nicknamed ‘Tom’, was Town Mayor in 1971. His first job was at Boots Pure
               Drug Company as a research chemist. It was around this time that he developed his unusual
               interest in coconuts and in 1939 took up a position as director of the Coconut Research
               Institute in Ceylon.


               In the early 1940s Tom produced a number of articles for the New Guinea Agricultural
               Gazette including, Coconut Oil—Properties and Composition; The Food Value of the
               Coconut, Coconut Shell Charcoal and the packing and keeping qualities of desiccated
               coconut.


               1972


                21 Market Place which had been demolished and rebuilt became home for Winchester
               Frozen Foods.

               1974


               International Stores in Denmark Street closed. The building was pulled down in 1983 and
               replaced by a new one which is now occupied by Specsavers.


               1975

               The following photograph was taken this year when the brewery building housed the Berkshire
               Craft Centre before being demolished.
