OUTSTANDING SAVINGS RECORD
Each street in Wokingham has its own National Savings Group, and according to
Mr. Arthur Pindar, District Commissioner of the National Savings Movement,
“Wokingham Borough is outstanding in the Southern Region in its response to the
National Savings appeal. “Schools, societies and organisations are all strongly co-
operative and willing to assist the movement in every way,” he said.
He was talking at the National Savings stall in the Market Place, Wokingham,
manned by the Wokingham Municipal Borough Home Savings Committee on
Saturday morning, when the Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr. and Mrs. Ian Crail, with their
small daughter, Nichola, paid them a visit.
The stall displayed posters and literature to publicise the June Community Month
with an accent on voluntary work by the Home Savings Group collectors. With Mr.
Pindar was Mr. Dennis Irvine who agreed to be “temporary” Chairman of the
Wokingham Savings Committee 12 years ago and has remained Chairman ever since,
and the Southern region Deputy Member Mrs. Louis Parnell.
Savings in the Southern region now total over £1¼ million each year.
