RESTYLED RITZ CINEMA OPENS ON SUNDAY
Cinema returns to Wokingham this Sunday after an absence of nearly two years.
The heroic adventures of Flash Gordon will fill the screen as the Ritz reopens its
doors to filmgoers. But the efforts to bring movies back to the town has been costly.
The final bill for the Ritz Entertainment Centre has soared to £150,000—more than
50% up on the original estimates. The manager is Ray Hipkin who says work will be
finally completed on Good Friday.
The complex includes a pool hall with an American-style coffee bar and refurbished
bingo hall. It was to open on the previous December but there were difficulties.
The180-seat studio will be showing newly released big movies—unlike the old sex
films which were screened to numerous empty seats before the old Ritz closed.
Modern projection equipment and what is hoped will be installed will make one of the
best screens in Berkshire for the first showing at m3.20pm. Modern projection
equipment and what is hoped will be one of the best screens in Berkshire will be
waiting for the customers on Sunday afternoon at 3.20 for the first showing.
Treat
And as a special treat for young lovers there will be double seats in the back row.
Admission prices at the new Ritz will be £1.80—five pence cheaper than its Reading
rivals. Old age pensioners and children are to be charged half-price at all times with
no restrictions
