Mr. W. Gotelee, Printer and Bookseller, of the Market-place, having accepted the
agency for this Paper, for the Wokingham district, is in future authorised to receive
advertisements, authenticated articles of intelligence, intended for insertion in our
columns; and we particularly request our friends in the above neighbourhood to
forward their communications through him, as early in the week as possible.

                                                      ACCIDENT
An accident occurred, last week to Mr. Samuel Day, of Manor Farm, near
Wokingham. It appears that, whilst returning from hunting, his horse suddenly took
fright, and Mr. Day was precipitated to the ground, and which he sustained serious
injuries, having his skull fractured and hip bone broken: we are happy, however, to be
enabled to state that, under the attentive care of our respected surgeon, Mr. Weight, he
is doing well, and is likely to recover.

                                                     POST OFFICE
In consequence of the resignation of Mr. Bartlett, many years Postmaster of this
town, canvass for the office was recently made by Mr. W. Gotelee, bookseller, who
succeeded in obtaining some very respectable recommendations from the gentry and
inhabitants of the town. Mr. G.’s exertions, however, proved unsuccessful, and Mr.
Spence, of the Market-place, has received the appointment.

                                                       MARKET
We had a short supply of fowls on Tuesday last, and the price obtained was from 2s.
6d. to 4s. each; those who may have fowl to dispose of will do well by bringing them
                   to this market.

A vestry was held at the church on Easter-Monday, when the accounts of the
parochial-officers were examined and passed, and officers chosen for the year
ensuing, after which the clergyman, gentlemen, and tradesmen of the town, met at the
Bush Inn, where they sat down to a very excellent dinner, served up in the worthy
host’s, Mr. J. Lane, usual good style. The duties of the chair were ably filled by Mr.
Joseph Holmes, builder, and the company felt that the enjoyment which ought to
pervade such meetings, over a glass of good old wine, and they did not separate till a
                   late hour.

A meeting was held at the Town Hall, on the 17 inst. of the Wokingham Branch of
the British and Foreign Bible Society, when the Rev., Dr. Steinkopff, from the Parent
Society, and several ministers attended, and addressed a very numerous assembly of
the inhabitants, who were very much delighted with the pleasing information they had
hears of the good efforts of the exertions of those who subscribe and collect to assist
so good a cause. The chair was ably filled by Mr. Heelas senior. The collection made
was equal to that of former meetings.
