The total result is not yet available, but it is well over £100. On both days there were
excellent attendances, and buying was brisk. On Wednesday evening several articles
were put up for sale by auction, including a fowl which was eventually sold to the
Mayor for £3. The result must be most gratifying to the members of the War Working
Party and other helpers who have worked so hard for the success.

CSM Alfred Jeffcock Rifle Brigade was killed in action on the 25 of March at the
age of 21 years. He was the youngest son of Mrs Jeffcock of 21, Easthampstead Road.
His rapid promotion was noted. His brother is wounded and his father died a few
months ago.

Lieut. Allan H. Perkins, Pioneer Battalion, Australia Forces (Queensland) youngest
son of H.H. Perkins of the retreat married Miss Elsie Adelene Pither youngest
daughter of Mr. & Mrs. T.B. Pither of Broad Street. Her sister Daisy attended.

WOKINGHAM CADETS
A well-attended meeting was held on Wednesday evening at the Town Hall, the
Mayor in the chair, and was addressed by Major Vaughan-Williams, the County
Commandant, and Major Porter, secretary of the Berks Territorial Association. It was
resolved to raise a company at Wokingham and the Mayor, Major Dunne, Major de
Vitre, Lieut. Brodie and Sergt.-Major Martin were elected a committee to organise the
company and raise funds for its equipment, club and sports. It is hoped that the
movement will be enthusiastically supported.
WOKINGHAM COLONEL HONOURED
Among those who attended at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday an investiture by
H.M. the King, was Lieutenant-Colonel Hills Nicholson, son of the late Mr. A.J. and
Mrs. Nicholson, of Chetwood, Wokingham. The gallant colonel was some time since
notified of the award of the D.S.O. His military career is as follows: He received his
