LARGE BOMBER LANDS
A large bomber of the “K” class, after circling in the district for some time, made a
successful landing in Mr. Colebrook’s field about 4.15 p.m. on Wednesday. A large
number of people crowded into the field and London Road adjacent, and were greatly
interested in the machine. The crew numbered five, and, we understand, heavy clouds
at low altitude rendered further flying unsafe, hence the descent. Towards evening
conditions had changed for the better, and the crew awaited weather reports before re-
starting.
A fine ascent was made at nine o’clock, and the machine left in the direction of
Salisbury.

The annual meeting of the Wokingham Town Football Club was held on Monday,
when some 60 members and players attended. The committee room of the Town Hall
was not spacious enough and the meeting was transferred to the large hall.
Mr. W.H. Lee read the balance sheet, which showed a balance of approximately
£11, with the new pavilion fund at £158, and also a substantial amount in the motor
mower fund. The sale of programmes (Mr. J.L. Langley, secretary) was a record one,
And Mr. Langley was congratulated on selling well over 2,000 during the season.
The secretary (Mr. H. Hawkins) reported that the club was not so successful last
season from the playing point of view, but if that meeting and the number of players
wanting to sign on were any guide, then they were in for a very good season.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Dr. H.F. Smith was elected president, and, In reply, regretted that it was necessary
to elect a new president through the death of Mr. E.C. Hughes, who had not only been
a great friend of the club but of Wokingham as a whole. Continuing, Dr. Smith
considered that Wokingham should have a much better team than at present, and
urged all the players present to play the game, to do their best for the club, and to raise
the standard of play in Wokingham. This season a Wednesday section had been
arranged and would run two teams.
