Members of the Women’s Service Group gave a concert on Monday in the
Salvation Army Hall, Sturges Road, when proceeds were for the Salvation Army
Soldiers’ Welcome Home Fund
DIED IN INDIA

The death occurred suddenly on May 31 at Rawal Pindi, India of General Sir
Henry Finnis, K.C.B., M.C., G.O.C.-in-C, Noth Western Army, General Finnis
married in 1917, Cecile, only daughter of the late Col. O’Malley, C.B., and the late
Mrs. O’Malley of Dromore, Wokingham. He leaves one son.
METHODIST YOUTH CLUB CONCERT
A dramatic evening with songs and plays was given at the Town Hall on Saturday
by members of the Methodist Youth Club. The plays were “Escape,” “At the
Photographer’s” a Mabel Constanduros comedy, and “A Room in the Tower,” a
historical drama. Production was effective and make-up very impressive. At the end
of the performance, a bouquet was presented to the producer, Mrs. Blatherwick. The
target of £15 was reached.
BOYS’ BRIGADE DISPLAY
The Mayor, Cllr. W.C. Fullbrook, took the chair at a grand display of Boys’ Brigade

activities by the 7 Reading Company at Wokingham Town Hall on Wednesday. The

programme included the presentation of badges to the 1 . Wokingham Company. by
st
Ald. F.J. Barrett. The proceeds were for the funds of the 1 . Wokingham Co. who are
endeavouring to raise a fund of £50 for gymnastic equipment.
MISSIONARY GARDEN PARTY
St. Paul’s Church held its sixth Missionary Garden Party since the war at The Elms,
Wokingham on Wednesday, by permission of Miss Ellison. An address was given by
the Right Rev. Bishop Dauglish, formerly Bishop of Nassau, and secretary of the
S.P.G.. His subject was the West Indies Church Appeal. Holt School Girls under the
direction of Miss Dickson, gave a performance of “The Bathroom Door.” The total
proceeds amounted to £115.

OBITUARY MRS. PALEY
The funeral service of Mrs. Catherine Margaret Paley, late of Cantley, Wokingham,
and recently of Park Lodge, Binfield, took place at Binfield Parish Church on
Wednesday. Internment followed at St. Paul’s, Wokingham. Mrs. Paley was 89.
EMPIRE YOUTH WEEK END
Special services in connection with the annual Empire Youth Sunday were held at
the Salvation Army Hall by Capt. and Mrs. Fiddaman (corps officers) on Sunday
evening. The Mayor and Mayoress and some members of the corporation attended in
their official capacity for the first time in the history of the local corps. On Monday
evening an Empire Youth Pageant was arranged by the Torchbearer Youth Group. An
