WOKINGHAM: WHERE EAST IS WEST
There is a concern that the weather-vane on the old Town Hall, which was recently
painted gold and black. On close examination it can be seen that it is has been
replaced the wrong way round--east is pointing west.
According to the borough surveyor it must have been like that for years unless the
workmen moved it when they were working on the old Town Hall. He did not know
when the mistake would be rectified because it is difficult to get at.

EDUCATIONAL VISIT
First year students at Emmbrook Secondary Modern School paid an educational
visit to the Frimley Green Water Works on Friday last week.
HARVEST SERVICE
A harvest Festival service was held at Emmbrook Secondary Modern School on
Thursday last week and fruit was taken to the residents of Corfield Green Home. The
school “adopted” the old folk in this home and have been visiting them regularly
during the course of the year. Some fruit was also taken to the old people in Oakfield,
Barkham Road, Wokingham.
SCHOOL’S SERVICE
Emmbrook Primary School held a Harvest Festival service at the school on
Thursday last week and 70 parents were invited to attend. The number of parents
attending had to be restricted owing to lack of space. One child from each class took
fruit and vegetables to a children’s home in Wilton Road, Reading on Thursday. On
Friday four older girls distributed flowers to the old folk in Wokingham Hospital and
toured some of the wards.
FOOTPATH PLEA
Eastheath Residents’ Association who have requested a right of way to be created
between Molly Millars Lane and Barkham Road are to be told that Wokingham
Borough Council’s Highways and Lighting Committee are unable to take any further
action. This is due, the committee reported at Thursday’s council meeting, to the
complexities of the route due to the ownerships and industrial use.

TOWN CRIER TAKES ON MORE WORK
Mr. Herbert Biddle, who since July 1965, has had the quite unenviable task of being
the town’s crier, will next month hold four municipal posts at Wokingham. Mr.
Biddle, who lives at 171, Waterloo Road, became on the retirement of Mr. Cecil

Nibbs, the borough’s mace-bearer. On November 7 he will not only be appointed the
town hall keeper, but the market superintendent as well.

KALEIDOSCOPE OF SCHOOL WORK
A kaleidoscope of school life gave a unique approach to Embrook County
Secondary School’s first prize-giving on Wednesday. The successful experiment was
produced for the prize-giving by Mr. Kettlewell. The production portrayed some of
the more enjoyable aspects of school life. The boys showed their agility in a
gymnastic display, and the girls modelled clothes they had made themselves, but the
