The manner of       being or to the greater part of them from time to time so often as shall be
               chooseing him       needfull & requisite to choose nominate & authourize an honest & discreet

                                   man skillfull in the laws of England to be Recorder or Under Steward to
               The Office during   continue in the said Office during the pleasure of the Alderman & Head
               pleasure only       Burgesses of the Town for the time  being & the Head Burgesses of the

                                   Town for the time  being  or  the  greater  part  of  them  And  Wee  will that
                                   every person from time to time thus to be nominated elected & authorised

                                   Recorder or Understeward of the aforesaid Town may & shall have full
                                   power & authority to do & execute all & singular the things belonging to
               His Oath            the Office of Recorder or Understeward a Corporall Oath first taken before

                                   the  Alderman    of  the  said  Town  for  the  time  being  or  before  the  head
                                   Burgesses of the said Town for the time being or as many of them as will

                                   there  be  present  to  execute  &  exercise  well  &  faithfully  the  Office  of
                                   Recorder or Understeward of the aforesaid Town in & through all things
                                   And further Wee will & by these presents for us our heirs & successors

                                   wee grant to the aforesaid Alderman & Burgesses of the aforesaid Town &
                                   their successors that the aforesaid Alderman of the said Town for the time
               Who to be Justice   being  &  also  Chiefe  Steward  of  that  Town  &  the  Recorder  or  Under

               of the Peace of the   Steward of the same Town being expert in the Law for the time being &
               Corporation         the last predecessor of every Alderman of that Town for the time being by
                                   the space of one yeare immediately after that he shall go forth of that office

                                   of Alderman that they may & shall be perpetually our Justices & of our
                                   heirs & successors & every of them may & shall be our Justices & of our

                                   heirs  &  successors  for  our  peace  &  our  heirs  &  successors  in  the  same
               The Justices        Town the suburbs Libertys & precincts thereof & also to preserve correct
               authority           &  keep  the  statutes  concerning  artificers  labourers  weights  &  measures

                                   within the aforesaid Town & the suburbs Libertys & precincts thereof & to
                                   cause  them  to  be  amended  &  kept  And  that  they  have  full  power  &
                                   authority to enquire of whatsoever defaults defects & articles within the

                                   said Town the libertys & precincts thereof made moved or committed or
                                   hereafter to be made moved or committed which the Justices Keepers of
                                   the  peace  in  any  County  of  our  Kingdom  of  England  by  the  Laws  &

                                   Statutes of the same our Kingdom of England as Justices of  peace only
                                   ought & may enquire yett so that they or any of them do not by any means

                                   proceed to try all or determination of any Treason Murther or Felony or
                                   any other thing or matter touching the loseing of life or limb within the
