Bye Laws for the constitute & ordain & make from time to time such Laws statutes &
good government ordinances reasonable whatsoever which shall seem to them according to
of the said Town their Sound discretions to be good wholesome profitable honest &
necessary for the good government & ruleing of Artificers & Inhabitants of
the said Town for the time being & for declaration in what matters & order
the said Alderman Burgesses & Tradesmen inhabiting & abideing in the
said Town shall behave demean & use themselves offices misterys &
businesses within the said Town & Limitts thereof for the time being &
other wayes for the publick good & publick profitts & government of that
Town & victualling of the same & also for the preservation government
disposition letting & demising of lands tenements possessions revenues &
hereditaments to the said Alderman & Burgesses & their successors given
granted assigned or assured or hereafter to be given granted or assigned &
other things & causes whatsoever of the said Town & touching or any
wayes concerning the state right & interest of the said Town & that they &
their successors so often as they shall frame make ordain or stablish by the
Alderman for the time being & the head Burgesses or secondary Burgesses
of the said Town being the common councell of the said Town or by the
greater part of them as is aforesaid such Laws statutes & ordinances in
form aforesaid they may & have ability to impose such reasonable pains
penalties & punishments by imprisonments of body or by fines &
amerciaments or both of them towards & upon all offendants against such
statutes Laws & ordinances or any of them as shall seem reasonable &
requisite to the said Alderman Head Burgesses & secondary Burgesses of
the said Town for the time being or to the greatest part of them as is
aforesaid & they may & have power to levy & to have the same fines &
amerciaments without any hindrance of us our heirs or successors All &
singular which laws statutes & ordinances to be made as aforesaid Wee
will to be observed under the punishments that in them shall be contained
Yet so that the said Laws statutes ordinances & constitutions
imprisonments fines & amerciaments be reasonable & be not repugnant
nor contrary to the Laws statutes costoms or rights of our Kingdom of
The First England & for the better execution of our said Grants in this part Wee have
Alderman assigned names & appointed & made & by these presents for us our heirs
& successors Wee do assign name appoint & make our beloved Anthony
Bartlett Esquire now Alderman of the said Town to be first & modern
