The  Committee  of  the  BERKS  ASSOCIATION  FOR  THE  PROTECTION  OF
                   BRITISH  AGRICULTURE  beg  to  announce  that  a  Deputation  will  attend  at  the
                   Town Hall,
                                                   WOKINGHAM
                                                 th
                   On Tuesday next, February 13 , 1844. The Chair to be taken at 2 o’clock; and at the
                   Town Hall,
                                                    MAIDENHEAD
                                       (by permission of his Worshipful, the Mayor)
                   On Wednesday next, February 14th, 1844, for the purpose of explaining the objects of
                   the Association, and of urging the prompt cooperation of all who are interested in the
                   Protection of British Agriculture.
                   The attendance of Agriculturists, and of all others friendly to the cause of Protection
                   is earnestly requested.

                   AT A MEETING OF THE BERKSHIRE ASSOCIATION for the PROTECTION of
                                                                                               th
                   AGRICULTURE held at the Town Hall, Wokingham on Tuesday February 13 , 1844
                                              H. St. John, Esq., in the chair.
                   The following resolutions were unanimously passed:--
                      Moved by Mr. Thomas Deane, and seconded by Mr. John Simonds, Jun.--
                   1. That this Meeting, impressed with the importance of supporting by every means the
                   principle of Protection to the British Farmer, as well as to the other branches of Native
                   Industry, pledged themselves to oppose the violent and unceasing attacks upon them
                   by the Anti-Corn Law League, or by any other party acting in direct opposition to the
                   real interests of British Agriculture.
                                 Moved by Mr. C. Scarborough, and seconded by Mr. William Shackel,
                   Sen.
                   2) That this meeting in anxious to co-operated with their brother farmers in supporting
                   the County Association, formed for the Protection of Agriculture and other branches
                   of Native Industry, believing that such means are necessary to watch and oppose the
                   attempts that are now in operation. Against them, as well by direct as indirect means.
                                 Moved by Mr. Allnatt, and seconded by Mr. Thos. Terry--
                   3) That a District Committee be formed, in conformity with Rule 5 of the Association.
                   That the Committee shall consist of 13 members, with power to add to their numbers.
                   Five of the Committee shall form a quorum.
                      The thanks of the Meeting were passed by acclamation to H. St. John, Esq., for his
                   kindness in taking the Chair, and the ability and courtesy he had displayed in fulfilling
                   the duties of the office; also to the Alderman and Corporation of Wokingham, for the
                   use of the Town Hall on this occasion.
