attractive influences. Amongst the assembly were (as a matter of course) members of
their families who are ever foremost in rendering their aid both pecuniary and
personal towards the presentation of undertakings of public utility. Of the advantages
resulting from information on the natural it would be superfluous to write, and we
do most earnestly hope that this beginning of an obvious good will be followed up
with spirit, and that not only those who were interested the other evening but others
also will be roused from their apathy, and become partakers in the general pleasure.
We understand Mr. Sampson is engaged for the beginning of April to give lectures
on Galvanism and Chemistry. If it be so we would venture to suggest to the promoters
(and we shrewdly suspect who they are) that the price of admission be fixed as low as
possible in order to afford equal facility of attendance to the less opulent. We can only
add that we wish such efforts every possible success

The anniversary meeting of the Loyal Forest Lodge of Odd Fellows will take place
on Thursday next, at Host Churchman’s, the Kings Head Inn. The members will
proceed to church, headed by the Amersham Band, and in the procession the splendid
pieces of regalia will be borne, the brothers appearing in their sashes, aprons, &c.,
according to their degrees: a sermon will be preached in aid of the Widows’ and
Orphans’ fund, and after service the town will be paraded.
At the dinner, John Walter, jun., esq., will preside, and a great number of the Order
from different Lodges in the neighbourhood are expected to be present. Should the
weather be favourable, a gay day for Wokingham may be anticipated.

On Friday evening, the 10 inst., a single-wicket match was played on Langborough
cricket ground, Wokingham, by Messrs. Mersham, T. May, and Douglas, against
Messrs. Goodchild, B. Dehay, and J. Chambers, which was won by the former, after
                   some excellent play.
On Monday last, a match of cricket was played on Langborough ground, by
eighteen tailors of this town, nine on each side. The following score was made:--
Fielder’s side, first innings 46; second ditto 125—total, 171. Groves’ side, first
innings 41; second ditto 72—total 113. Some good play was exhibited on both sides.
The game throughout afforded much amusement to the bystanders. The parties
afterwards partook of an excellent supper at the Red Lion Inn, provided by Mr.
                   Trickey.
A match will take place on Monday next, on Langborough cricket ground, between
the Wokingham Albion and Blackwater clubs.

                                         BEAR WOOD TEETOTAL FESTIVAL
On Thursday last, the Wokingham and Arborfield Temperance Societies held a tea
meeting in Bear Wood Park, kindly granted for the occasion by J. Walter, Esq. The
day being very fine a vast concourse of respectable people visited the park evidently
delighted with the beauties of the place and Mr. Walter’s elegant mansion. The
Reading Brass Band was in attendance and played several lively airs through the park.
