On Tuesday our fowl market was well supported, and better prices were obtained, as
they made from 4s. to 8s. per couple, with a prospect of still further advance. Mr.
Groves, of Sandhurst, sold some to be produced on next market day, at the price of 4s.
3d. each to Mr. Burgess of this place.

Notice is hereby given, That the GENERAL ANNUAL MEETING of the Trustees
or Commissioners, acting under and by virtue of an Act of Parliament passed in the
third year of the reign of his late Majesty King George the Fourth, entitled “An act for
more effectually “Repairing and improving the Road from a place called ”The Old
Gallows in the Parish of Sonning, otherwise “Sunning, in the County of Berks,
through Wokingham, “New Bracknowl, and Sunning Hill, to Virginia Water, in the
Parish of Egham, in the County of Surrey,” will be held at the House of John Wise,
called the Rose Inn, at Wokingham, in the said County of Berks, on Monday, the
Twelfth day of January, at the hour of Twelve at noon.

The extreme mildness of the present season is exemplified in the garden of Mr. A
Lewis of Rose-street, in this town, by the fact of there being young gooseberries (the
second crop); they are now larger than peas: and also some very fine radishes, the
produce of seed ripened in the autumn and half grown: both are in the open ground.
Our Market was fully supplied, fowls making from 2s. to 4s. each.
On Tuesday, at the office of Mr. E. Roberts, James Hayward, Esq., chairman,
assisted by Le Merchant Thomas and J. Walter, Jun, Esqs.,--John Eddolds of
Wokingham was summoned by Thomas Williams, for discharging him from his
service (he being an hired servant). He was ordered again to receive him as his
servant, and to pay expenses.

POST OFFICE, WOKINGHAM
Thomas Spencer, Chemist and Druggist in returning thanks for the very liberal
support he has received from the Nobility, Gentry and inhabitants of Wokingham, and
the Vicinity, begs to assure them his exertions will not be spared to merit a
continuance of the name by the strictest attention, and in a selection of the most
DRUGS & Chemicals. He at the same time begs to inform them that in consequence
of Mr. PADBURY’s declining business he has purchased his extensive stock of
BRITISH WINES and he trusts he may receive that support which has been so
liberally bestowed for his purchases will always be made from the best in London and
none but those of the best will be ever offered for sale.
With very great pleasure we are called upon to notice the efforts that are made from
time to time in our ancient town to improve the social condition and increase the
pleasure of the population. In this instance we particularly refer to the novel
introduction at the Town-hall on lectures on matters of Practical science. We have
recently been delighted and edified by two lectures on Electricity by Mr. E.B.
Sampson, illustrated by a series of brilliant experiments which gave the most
unqualified satisfaction to numerous and attentive audiences, drawn together by their
