CHRISTMAS TREES
The annual Christmas-trees for the children of the Palmer Schools were given—to
the infants on Saturday and to the children of the mixed school on Monday. Two fine
fir trees were presented and both were loaded with presents, which had been
subscribed for by various friends of the School. Mr. Foy, as usual, presented a box of
oranges.
THE CHAPELS
In continuance of the week of special united prayer meetings at the Nonconformist
places of worship in the town, a united communion service was held at the Milton-
road Baptist Chapel on Sunday evening.
MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION
A musical and social programme was provided by the members on Wednesday
evening at the re-opening of the second session of the evening. Mr. P. Sale presided
and Messrs. Bodle and E.J. Taylor (vice-presidents), and Mr. Hay (the hon. Secretary)
were also present. The programme was carried out by Miss Fielder and Messrs. Shore,
Holloway, T.W. Hawkins and W.E. Whittingham.
GROSVENOR SCHOOL, WOKINGHAM
Miss E.M. Gammon, pupil of Miss Baker, has passed the Trinity Theory
Examination, Intermediate Division. The school will re-open on Thursday next,
January 19, boarders returning on the previous day.
WOKINGHAM CLUB
At the recent billiard handicap held at the Club House, Denmark-street, Mr. T.
Morres was the winner of the first prize, Mr. A.T. Jones being second.
TOWN BAND
The annual meeting of the Town Band was held in the Committee Room of the

Town Hall on the 6 inst. The Mayor of Wokingham (Mr. H.C. Mylne) presided. A
very successful season, with increased engagements, &c., was reported, and there was
a balance in hand of over £9.

HOSPITAL SUNDAY
The annual parade and collection on behalf of the funds of the Royal Berkshire
Hospital, organised by the local Friendly Societies, was held on Sunday, when the
weather was fine and the parade a great success. The various bodies assembled in the
Market-place at 1.30, an early collection having been made on the outskirts of the
town. The procession was divided into two parts, marshalled by Mr. W. Cansdale and

Mr. W. Parker. The bands taking part included the Town Band, Bugle Band of the 1 .
Wokingham Company Boys’ Brigade, Reading Headquarters Bugle Band, and the L
Company Volunteer Band. The full procession proceeded by way of Broad-street and
Rose-street to All Saints’ Church. The Mayor (Councillor H.C. Mylne) was present at
the service, and Ald. Wescott and Heron, Councillors Culver, Ellison, Martin,
Manley, Evans and Powell were also present. The Rev. B Long preached an
appropriate sermon from St Mark ii,3. The total collections throughout the day
amounted to £45 14 11¾d. The bands played selections of music in the Market-place
during the evening, when a large crowd assembled.
