by Mr. G. A. Pigg. Coronation medals generally provided by the Mayor (Mr. H.C.
Mylne) were presented to the children.
In the same field was arranged an excellent programme of Old English sports and a
gymkhana consisting of cycling events, comic sports, animal races, Scouts’ Marathon,
greasy pole, and various competitions, including military sports by the Berks Imperial
Yeomanry, Victoria Cross race, Balaclava mélée, wrestling on horseback, section
jumping etc.
Owing to the frequent showers of rain the other events on the programme could not
be decided, and they will be carried out later.
The prizes were distributed to the successful competitors by the Mayoress (Mrs.
Mylne.)
During the afternoon the Wokingham Town Band played an enjoyable programme
of music, and refreshments were served by Mr. W. Chambers, of the Market-place.
Stage performances were given at intervals during the afternoon and evening by the
London Pierrot Team. There were a number of side shows.
At 5 p.m. a display was given by the Wokingham Fire Brigade, the items being of
an amusing and exciting nature. Later in the evening there was dancing in a reserved
enclosure, music being supplied by Mr. C Ayres Wokingham Orchestra. The day’s
proceedings closed with a most successful carnival and procession of illuminated and
decorated cars, cycles, etc. for which prizes were offered. The list must be given next
week.

FIRE AT A FARM
An outbreak of fire at Britton’s Farm, opposite “The White Horse” Easthampstead-
road, on Sunday night about ten o’clock, was responsible for some serious damage, a
barn, two calves, some poultry, farm implements and about 20 sacks of wheat were
destroyed. An engine had been at work on the Saturday threshing wheat, and it is
possible a spark may have caused the damage. Mr. Darvill is the tenant under the
Marquis of Downshire, and it is understood he is insured. The Wokingham Fire
Brigade on being called, made a quick turn-out, and by their efforts succeeded in
saving the dwelling house.
