                                              ST. PAUL’S WOKINGHAM
                      The authorities of St. Paul’s church, Wokingham, have been offered for £100 the
                   field adjoining the churchyard on the western side, as an addition to the burial ground.
                   A generous donor has offered £50 conditional on the rest of the money being raised
                   by voluntary subscriptions.
                      A memorial tablet to the late Major de Vitre, rector’s churchwarden for many years
                   of St. Paul’s, Wokingham, has been erected in tablet form on the interior south wall of
                   the church. An alabaster slab over green marble has a white marble centre, on which
                   is  inscribed  the  following:  “In  ever-loving  memory  of  Denis  Frederick  Denis  De

                   Vitre, only son of the Rev. G.E. Denis De Vitre; born March 18 , 1867, at Weston
                                                th
                   Vicarage, Herts; died May 13 , 1924 at Keep Hatch, Wokingham, where he lived for
                   50 years. ‘The gift of God is eternal life.’” His ashes lie around the adjacent buttress
                   outside.
                      At a  recent  meeting of St. Paul’s Parochial Church Council it was approved that
                   application be made for a faculty for the erection of a memorial plate in the church to
                   the  memory  of  the  late  Sir  Edward  Walter  K.C.B.  (founder  of  the  Corps  of
                   Commissionaires), and Marianne, his wife who from 1867 till 1887 were worshippers
                   at this church.

                                            WATER-COLOUR DRAWINGS
                     Her majesty the Queen has purchased four of the water-colour drawings of South
                   African gardens  painted by Miss  Elizabeth  Drake, of  Wokingham.  These  drawings
                   have  been  reproduced  by  A.  and  C.  Black  Ltd.  to  illustrate  the  book  on  “South
                   African Gardens,” by Miss Dorothea Fairbridge. The subjects selected by her Majesty
                   are:  “Bougainvillea  at  Welgelegen,  Cape,”;  “Pergola  at  De  Grendel,  Tijgerberg,”;
                   “Hydrangeas  by  the  Water,  Bishopscourt,  Cape”  and  “Hydrangeas  on  the  Stoep,
                   Paradise, Cape.”

                                  EMIGRATION CINEMA LECTURE ON CANADA.
                      At the Wokingham Cinema, Broad Street, on Friday evening, under the auspices of
                   the  Canadian  Pacific  Railway,  a  cinematograph  display  and  illustrated  lecture  was
                   given by Major W.H. Hayward (late member of the Legislator of British Columbia),
                   entitled “Your Chance in Canada.” There was a large attendance, and the lecture was
                   followed with much interest, new films featuring agriculture, dairying, fruit raising
                   and cattle ranching in operation, while there were also views of the mountain scenery
                   and the well-equipped railroad cars and ocean liners of the Canadian Pacific Railway
                   Company.

                                              TERRITORIAL WEEKEND
                      “D” Company spent Saturday night under canvas at the Finchampstead range and on
                   Sunday  morning  carried  out  a  portion  of  their  training  in  which  they  practised  the
                   company attack. Met by their band on Sunday morning they marched back to the Drill
                   Hall, where they arrived about 12.15 p.m. The men were in full marching kit with
                   rifles. Captain A.C. Hughes commanded and Lieuts R. Haye and E.S. Ford, D.F.C.,
