They write from Gibraltar that four Moorish corsairs, on board one of which was an
Admiral, were lately lost in a gale of wind within a few leagues of Ceuta, and all their
crews perished.
The Hon. Mr. Grenville, who lately married the daughter of Lord Clare, has settled
£21,000 per ann. Upon his lady.—The marriage articles are said to have been written
on two hundred skins of parchment.
Early on Friday last a duel was fought on Wandsworth common between Colonel A.
and Captain E. relative to a dispute about election affairs, when after discharging their
pistols at each other, the seconds interposed, and the dispute was compromised
Thursday twenty-seven prisoners were tried at the Old-Bailey, four of whom were
capitally convicted, viz. Thomas Palmer for burglariously entering the dwelling house
of Robert Brook, in King—street, Old street-square and stealing three gowns, two
petticoats, three sheets, & other things; Michael Conway, alias Irish Mick, and
Thomas McDonald . for burglariously breaking open the dwelling-house of John
Henderson, in Burr-street, Wapping, and stealing a stone ring and a pair of silver shoe
buckels, the property of William Hunter; Thomas Wood, for stealing on Epping
Forest an heifer and two calves, the property of John Board.---Twelve were convicted
to be transported; two were convicted of petty larceny. And nine were acquitted.
Friday 23 prisoners were tried at the Old Bailey, four of whom were capitally
convicted, Viz. Samuel Storer and Samuel Cross for breaking and entering the
dwelling-house of William Wimot, butcher, at Clerkenwell, and stealing a quantity of
meat; Henry Jordain and Frederick Williams for stealing a plate in the dwelling-house
of Thomas Nugent, Esq; in Queen-square. Sergeant Beets, for the murder of Dorothy
Day, was brought to the bar, and being about to plead guilty, he was advised to put
himself on his trial, when he pleaded not guilty; and after examining several witnesses
he was found guilty of manslaughter; three to be whipped, and 15 were acquitted.
This day were capitally convicted at the Old Bailey, the two following persons, viz.
Jo Hins and Thomas Tunks, for a burglary in the house of Richard Jackson at
Whitechapel, taking 4 silver mounted pistols and some plate.

AN old white PONEY, rather above 13 hands high, with a switch tail, commonly
known by the name of JEMMY LAVEL
Whoever will bring him to Bill-Hill aforesaid shall receive half-a-guinea reward.
