were also enjoyed. Mr. Shelton’s orchestra played selections. The Mayor stated that

                                              LABOUR PARTY MEETING
Mr. Drew (member of the Reading Board of Guardians) presided on Saturday
evening over a Labour meeting, held in the Market Place, Wokingham. Dr.
Somerville Hastings, ex-M.P. for Reading, was unavoidably absent. Mr. Wilson
(Ruskin College, Oxford) and three other students were also present. The chairman
announced the object of the meeting was to raise funds for the relief of the miners and
their families, and the police had sanctioned a collection being taken for that purpose.
Mr. Wilson advised his hearers to “take no notice of silly talk in the papers about red
gold coming into England” in connection with the mining industry. The labour Party
supported the principle that all men were brothers. The Trade Union movement was
international and that was why the Russian Trade Unions were helping the miners of
Britain, as the British Trade Unions had helped German strikers in Hamburg some
                   years ago.

through the good innings of A. Trulock, captain (33), ran up 65 for five wickets and

Routledge five for eight. The fielding and catching of the Wescott Road boys was a
                   feature of both games.

                                                  TENNIS FOR GIRLS
On Monday the girls of Wescott Road were introduced to the pleasures of a tennis
tournament on a hard court in a playground. Through the kindness of Miss M. Kent,
three couples from the Milton Road Tennis Club played three couples from the
school. The scores at the finish were six sets to three and 49 to 36 games in favour of
the Milton Road club. Those taking part were: Milton Road Club, Mrs. O. Sale, Miss
Lunn, Miss Brown, Miss Rogers, Miss Davies and Miss Whitlock: Wescott Road
