At Eton he won distinction at cricket, and years back at Wokingham and district, he
frequently enjoyed the national game as a member of the Wokingham cricket Club
                   and the Wokingham Excelsior C.C.
He found time in the midst of his earnest and faithful parish work to act as a
member of the Wokingham Police Court Mission, the Wokingham Charity Trustee
Board, the local Education Committee of the Berkshire County Council (evening
classes), etc. He will be greatly missed for his quiet, unobtrusive generosity, his
wonderful voice as a reader, and his true devotion to and friendship with his flock.

                                                PORTRAIT UNVEILED
The Wesleyan Sunday School was crowded on Sunday afternoon with scholars,
teachers, parents and friends on the occasion of the unveiling of a large portrait of the

received a medal for ten years’ perfect attendance.

                                               A Gratifying Balance Sheet
                                                NEW BOWLING GREEN
                                            Generosity of Mrs. Howard Palmer
Mr. R.H.R. Palmer (President) presided at the annual meeting of the Wokingham
Club, held in the Concert Hall on Friday last week. There was a good attendance of
                   Members.
The balance sheet, produced by the secretary, Mr. W. Deane, indicated a substantial
increase in the bar takings, showing a profit of £271 4s. 3d., an increase of £80 18s.
2d. upon last year’s returns. The revenue account showed a balance of £145 11s. in
favour of income, after allowing for the deficit last year of £7 15s. 3d. Subscriptions
had increased by £16, billiards receipts by £14, and the income from sports and games
                   by £44.
                                                BOWLING GREEN GIFT
The secretary in his report stated that the executive committee had spent £31 in re-
laying about two-thirds of the present bowling green with new turves. The
lengthening of the green was carried out by some of the members, for which the
executive committee was grateful. As the members were aware their president and
Mrs. Howard Palmer had kindly provided the club with a new bowling green, and
they were defraying all costs in connection with its preparation and laying down. The
green was to be named the Howard Palmer bowling green (attached to the
Wokingham club). The sincere thanks of the club were due to them for their
generosity. The president had also provided for the Concert Hall a kitchen and ladies’
cloakroom, which would prove a source of more income to the club. He thanked the
bowls and billiards committee for running whist drives, etc., which had brought in
considerable income. Great help was afforded to the sports committee by a ladies’
