                                      NEW BURIAL GROUND AT WOKINGHAM
On Thursday afternoon the Bishop of Oxford consecrated an addition to the burial
ground at All Saints’ Church, Wokingham, in the presence of a large congregation.
The addition was one which was badly needed, at it is hoped that it will render a town
cemetery unnecessary for a further twenty years.
The new burial ground was purchased (one acre in extent) when the land of Mr.
Crutchley came into the market some years ago. It may be recalled that the
churchyard was first extended in 1912, when the then added portion was consecrated
                   by the late Bishop Gore.
Clergy present included the Archdeacon of Berkshire, Canon J.A. Anderson (Rural
Dean), Canon G.F. Coleridge, Canon B. Long, Canon W.H. Whiting, the Revs. A. P.
                   Carr, W.H. Bayley, W.T. Stubbs, R.D. Weller, L.R. Majendie, F.L. Sugget, T.W.
                   Sergeant, C.H. Donne, W.H. Wright, C. Mansfield, K. St. C. Thomas (Bishop’s
                   Chaplain)

                                                WOMEN LEGIONARIES
The annual General meeting of the women’s section of the British Legion took
place in the Legion Hall, Wokingham. Lady Victoria Villiers (president) gave a short
address on the care that was taken of all the cemeteries in France, which she had lately
visited. The Hon. Mrs. Cornfield, vice-president, spoke on the character of Lord
Nelson in connection with the anniversary of Trafalgar Day, and Mrs. Eustace, vice-
president, spoke on Armistice Day and Poppy Day.

                                              A WOODEN “POLICEMAN”
Since Thursday last week a wooden, truncated cone, bearing the words “Keep Left,”
has replaced the policeman on traffic control duty at the junction of Market Street and
Broad Street. The device was met with much criticism. It certainly slows down traffic,
east and west, but there is still very obviously the lack of intelligent direction as to
cross track turning, and for vehicles requiring a wide sweep. It is understood that the
innovation is in the nature of an experiment.

The Embrook Tennis Club held a dinner and dance at the Rose Hotel, Wokingham, on
Monday, when Mr. N.C. Lawrence presided. He distributed the cups which had been
won during the past season as follows: Ladies’ singles, Mrs. Lawrence; men’s singles,
Mr. F. Carpenter; mixed doubles, Mrs. Lawrence and Mr. Carpenter.

                                                  ARMISTICE DANCE
Arranged by Councillor C. Goddard, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Thatcher and others, a
successful Armistice dance was held in the drill hall on Monday in the aid of the
funds of the Police Court Mission, the Nurse Fund, and other charities. Music was
supplied by the dance band of the R.M.C., Sandhurst. The bar was managed by Mr.
J.B. Crawley, of the Bush Hotel, while Mrs. Crawley was equally successful with the
                   refreshments.
