and physical training; but there are also a large number of subjects in which
instruction will be given to those who desire it, including book-keeping, shorthand
and typing, cooking, swimming, electricity, dress-making and even cinema projection.
There will also be facilities for games and social intercourse. This ambitious project
will clearly need for its fulfilment strong local support and adequate assistance,
financial and other, from official sources.
Women over the age of 18 who are willing to serve as officers of the corps should
apply to the Commandant, Mrs. John Walter, at St. Catherine’s, Bear Wood.

CHURCH ARMY HUT AND STATION CANTEEN
During the past few months thousands of H.M. Forces have received tea and
refreshments at the Church Army new station canteen, and the assistance of the
helpers has been greatly valued. There are some who might be willing to help behind
the scenes making sandwiches, salads, or even doing some very elementary cooking.
They are asked to offer their services. For several weeks men have had to be turned
away who have been seeking sleeping accommodation for the night. Spare blankets
for us at the Hut to meet this need would be greatly appreciated. Other needs are a
carpet and a bicycle (lady’s or gentleman’s) to save petrol.
