FOR FORTY YEARS A LICENSEE
                      The  death  has  occurred  of  Mrs.  Florence  Mary  Aldridge,  of  the  Dog  and  Duck,
                   Matthews  Green  Road,  and  the  funeral  took  place  on  Monday  at  St.Paul’s.  Mrs.
                   Aldridge had been licensee of the Dog and Duck for over forty years. Aged 76, she
                   had  become  well-known  in  the  district;  she  used  to  live  in  Reading.  The  rector
                   officiated  at  the  funeral,  when  among  the  family  mourners  were:  Mr.  G.  Aldridge
                   (husband), Mr. W. Hobbes (brother), Miss G. Shepherd, Miss E. Hambleton, Mrs. G.
                   Stroud,  Mrs.  J.  Smith,  Mrs.  O.  Shepherd,  Mrs.  K.  Pidgeon  (nieces),  and  Mr.  F.
                   Cultimore (brother-in-law), M.C. Shepherd (brother-in-law), Mr. O. Shepherd, Mr. H.
                   Parker, Mrs. E. Raymond, Mr. W. Aldridge, Mr. E. Hambleton, Mr. A. James, and
                   Mr. E. Purser.

                                                 YOUTH FELLOWSHIP
                      The  All  Saints’  Youth  Fellowship  Bible  Class  started  their  winter  session  last
                   Sunday.

                                                    WAR SAVINGS
                      War Savings in Wokingham Borough for week-ending last Saturday amounted to
                   £5,664.
                                                 HARVEST FESTIVAL
                      Harvest festival services were held on Sunday at Forest Road Church. Captain H.
                   Gibson preached at evensong, and the Rector, the Rev. G. Kenworthy, conducted the
                   Children’s Gift Service.

                                              LAUNDRY DEVELOPMENT
                      Mr. I. Carter; proprietor of the West Reading Laundry, has taken over the managing
                   directorship of the Wokingham Laundry Co., Ltd. The work will be carried on under
                   the same control and management as the West Reading Laundry.

                                       DEATH OF MR. THEODORE E. COOPER
                      Mr. Theodore Ernest Cooper, 11, Seaford Road, Wokingham, who died on Monday,
                   belonged  to  the  Berkshire  Volunteers  from  1883  for  16  years.  He  was  78  and  the
                   funeral took place on Monday at All Saints’ Church.

                                               HOSPITAL COLLECTION
                      The  Mayor  of  Wokingham  (Cllr.  E.W.  Reeves)  writes:  “Will  you  allow  me  to
                   appeal  through your paper to the residents  of Wokingham to  support the house-to-
                   house collection on Sunday for the Royal Berkshire Hospital. This collection has been
                   made annually for over 50 years; Wokingham in the past has always supported the
                   Royal  Berks  Hospital,  and  I  hope  in  these  difficult  times  the  residents  will  give
                   generously to meet the ever-increasing cost of the hospital.

                                                  THE MAYORALITY
                      The Mayor-elect (Alderman E.W. Reeves) regrets that owing to War conditions it is
                   impossible  again  this  year  to  issue  the  usual  invitations  to  the  Mayor-Making
                   Ceremony on Monday next.
