RECTOR TO LEAVE WOKINGHAM
The Rev. Gordon Kenworthy, rector of All Saints’, Wokingham, since 1933, has
announced his decision to resign the living on account of ill-health. The date of his
departure is not yet known. Before he was appointed to Wokingham, where he
succeeded Canon B. Long, Mr. Kenworthy was vicar of Ardington. He was formerly
curate at Kennington, London, and rector of West Ilsley. The Rev. F.V. Lean,
assistant priest at All Saints’, will also shortly be leaving to take up duties in South
Africa.

TOWN COUNCIL TO SEND CONGRATULATIONS
The “loyal and ancient Borough of Wokingham” is to send a message of
congratulations and goodwill to H.R.H. Princess Elizabeth on her engagement. This
was suggested by Ald. F.J. Barrett at a meeting of the Town Council on Thursday,
with the Mayor (Cllr. N.C. Lawrence) in the chair, and was warmly acclaimed.
GERMAN YOUTH LEADERS ENTERTAINED
Members of the Methodist Youth Club welcomed a party of German Youth Leaders
to their meeting on Monday. The Germans, mostly women, are on a visit to this
country to study youth movements here. After seeing a play, “Anti-Clockwise,”
performed by their hosts, they joined in a game of table tennis. The reception
committee was headed by Mr. Shanks, club leader.
JUNIOR SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB
The Old Boys held their annual meeting last week when the secretary’s report
showed that the initial season had proved most successful from the playing angle, the
team having finished sixth in their section of the league. Officers were elected as
follows:--Chairman, Ald. D. Goddard, J.P.; hon. Secretary, Mr. Arthur Hyde Parker;
hon. Treasurer, Mr. R. Emmerick, match secretary, Mr. G. Phelps. Ray Reed was
elected Captain.

PRINCESS ELIZABETH AT BEAR WOOD
Visit To Royal Merchant Navy School
Princess Elizabeth, making her first official visit to Berkshire since the
announcement of her engagement, attended prize-giving at the Royal Merchant Navy
School at Bear Wood, on Saturday to distribute the prizes and to unveil a tablet
acknowledging a gift to the school of £72,100 from the Merchant Navy Fund of South
Africa.

OBITUARY
ADMIRAL J.B. EUSTACE
Admiral John Bridges Eustace, for many years a member of the Berkshire County
Council, died at his home, Denton Lodge, Wokingham, on Saturday. He was 87.
The eldest son of the late Colonel and Mrs. Eustace, Admiral Eustace entered the
Navy in 1874, and as a young officer won promotion for his services in suppressing
slave traffic. In 1900, with the rank of commander, he acted as Principal Naval
Transport Officer to the China Expeditionary Force, and was mentioned in General
Gaselee’s dispatches. Three years later he was promoted to captain, and from 1904-7
commanded the cruiser Fox in the East Indies, earning the commendation of the
