Then she returned to the main building, walking between the ranks of the many
                   guests, who showed tremendous enthusiasm.
Outside the general public still lined the streets, waiting until the Princess Margaret
drove away, happily waving in response to the cheering crowds.
A description of the Home has already appeared in the Reading Mercury.

On Thursday the possibility of accepting 5,000 of the overspill population of
                   London was discussed.

At the Wokingham Town Council meeting on Thursday a motion by Cllr. E.T.
Lancaster that the Town Council be instructed to take the necessary steps towards the

                                                 NEXT WEEK’S FILMS
“Quo Vadis,” M.G.M.’s biggest-ever production, can be seen at the Ritz for the
whole of next week. How much it cost to make and the number in the cast are two
astronomically-high figures that justify M.G.M.’s boast that it is their greatest effort.
Even their own set word “colossal” hardly seems strong enough. Robert Taylor,
Deborah Kerr, Leo Genn and Peter Ustinov are the main stars.

                                                       RE-UNION
Old girls of the Convent of the Presentation, Wokingham, held their annual meeting
and re-union at the convent on Sunday. After the customary lunch the association’s
annual meeting was held under the presidency of Miss Pauline Willis. It was decided
that the association should celebrate the jubilee of the convent being founded in
Wokingham (1904), but a proposal that this be marked with a dance did not find the
required support. The presidents also drew members’ attention to the fact that
subscriptions were in many cases in arrears, and these should be paid promptly. The
meeting was followed by an afternoon of games and competitions. Before leaving,
members attended Benediction in the convent chapel.

DIED IN A GAS-FILLED ROOM (Miss L.J. Baker)
Aged 86 years, Miss Laura Jane Baker was found dead on Thursday morning in a
gas-filled room at the house where she was living, 47, Oxford road, Wokingham. A
post mortem was held and there will be an inquest on Monday.

                                                   SCOUT BAZAAR
The Mayor of Wokingham (Cllr. W.G. Jackson) and the Mayoress (Mrs. W.J.
Willey) went to the Church House, Wokingham, on Saturday afternoon to lend their

support to the 1 Wokingham (Mayor’s Own) Scout Group annual bazaar. Most
popular of all the afternoon visitors was Father Christmas. The bazaar was to raise
funds for the building of a new headquarters, and Scouts Cubs and parents alike all
worked hard to make it a success.
