landing net or gaff—he succeeded in taking a 21 lbs. Pike from Buzzacott Lake, a
short distance from his home. The pike was 43 inches long and had a girth of 19
inches. It took a quarter-of-an hour’s hard struggle for Arthur to land his catch, which
had snapped at one roach too many—this one being impaled on a treble hook. The
weight of the fish was verified by the secretary of the Twyford and District Fishing
Club, Mr. G. Miles, of 4, South Place, Wokingham, and among the witnesses was Mr.
                   J. Buzzacott, from whose lake it was taken. Although young in years, Arthur is
already something of a veteran angler, for he has enjoyed fishing ever since he was
old enough to hold a line, and in this respect follows in his father’s footsteps. One
might say that he has now overtaken Mr. Cardrick, for the latter stated that he had
never made such a day’s fine catch [the following is out of context] was not his son’s
first catch, and doubted if he would. Saturday success, however, for he held the
previous record for the lake with an 8½ lbs. Pike, caught two years ago.
