Wells, referred to the difficulties of keeping the branch functioning—difficulties
experienced by many other branches, he explained—and said “The past year has been
marked by a certain amount of frustration, as your committee have found it
impossible to hold regular monthly meetings owing to lack of support.”
Certain things had been accomplished in the past year, however, and Mr. Wells
reported that pensions for the disabled had been increased following a national rally in
the Royal Albert Hall, attended by himself and the standard-bearer, Mr. W. Spokes.
There was still more to be done in this direction, commented Mr. Wells.
Having referred to parades organised or attended by branch members, Mr. Wells
thanked the officers and committee for their work, paying a special tribute to the
entertainments committee, which had provided a great deal of the branch income.
The financial state of the branch was reported on by Mr. F. Payne, treasurer, who
said that the general fund had increased during the year from £7 16s. 8d. to £13 6s. 7d.
the benevolent fund had increased from £4 1s. 6d. to £15 10s. 9d. and the
                   entertainment fund had also risen—from £109 7s. 1d. to £116 7s. 1d.
Reporting on the work of the entertainments committee, Mr. W. Reporting on the
work of the entertainments committee, Mr; W. Hannam said that the thrift club was
proving more popular each year. When It started the deposits reached £300--this year
they were expected to exceed £3.000.
Concerning the. Legion and ex-Service men in need of some assistance, Mr. W.
Burden reported that the service committees had been busy in several cases. Some
men were helped in their claim for pensions, and one man was able to take a job
locally after the Legion had found accommodation for him.
The election of officers was as follows: President. Lt.-Gen. P. Molloy; vice-
                   presidents, Messrs. R. Haye, A. B. Hall, W. Burden and F. Payne; chair-man, Mr. H.

believed to have been started by an ember from a Guy Fawkes bonfire.
