programme of entertainment. This was under the direction of M.C. Mr. Jim Hawkes
and included three sketches, demonstration dancing and piano solos by Christopher
Gould. A visitor to the party was the Mayor, Dr. P.P. Pigott, who had a special word
with all the guests. The party ended with community hymn singing after the ladies had
beaten the men in a Bible quiz.

LAWN TENNIS
The Kestrel Lawn Tennis Club had a disappointing start to their match programme
on Saturday. Their men’s team visited Royal Ascot and went down 7—2, whilst the
following day the ladies lost 5—4 to Simonds’ Ladies, Reading.
CINEMA’S FACE LIFT
Work has now started on a complete redecoration of the Ritz Cinema, Wokingham,

to mark its silver jubilee on May 29 . Starting on May 28 there will be a special
celebration week, and the film chosen will be “Road to Hong Kong” with Bob Hope,
Bing Crosby and, of course, Dorothy Lamour. On the day of the anniversary
(Tuesday) a reception will be held at the cinema at which an A.B.C. starlet will be
making a personal appearance. In addition to the redecoration the screen is to be
moved back to allow more stage space for personal appearances.
QUEEN’S 20-MINUTE VISIT TO TOWN
Wokingham prepares

The Queen’s visit to Wokingham on June 25 is likely to last only 20 minutes. She
will probably arrive via Peach Street for a reception at the Market Place.
There she will meet the Mayor and councillors, sign the visitors’ book and leave
down Broad Street.
So said the Mayor, Dr. Phyllys Pigott, at a meeting of the General Purposes
Committee of Wokingham Town Council on Tuesday.

Mr. Percival Octavius Watson of Cherrycroft, Farnham Royal, Bucks, formerly of

Cantley, Wokingham, died on December 17 , aged 83 years. His daughter was Mary
Sinclair, of Oakfields, Jordans, Bucks.

ORTHOPAEDIC CLINIC
The annual meetings of the Wokingham Orthopaedic Clinic Committee and of the
Trustees were held at the Clinic on Monday, when the reports of the working of the
past year and the balance sheets were presented and accepted. The hon. secretary Miss

E. Ward reported that the number of patients on the register on May 11 was 239, and
the number of attendance during the year, 551. New patients numbered 148, 52
patients were x-rayed at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, 16 were admitted to the
Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre at Oxford or the Abingdon Hospital, and 30 were given a
course of physiotherapy at Wokingham Hospital. The committee was re-elected en-
bloc, with Mr. David Goddard, chairman; Miss E. Ward, hon. secretary, and Miss
M.G. Goddard, hon. treasurer. Mr. Goddard was re-elected chairman of the Trustees.
