To help cope with the seasonal rush at the Wokingham Post Office, Mr. R.A. Cole
                   said this week that parcel traffic would be dealt with in a hired hut at the back of the
                   Post Office yard, and in a garage. The annexe at the rear of the Post Office will be
                   open to the public for letters, parcels and packets. Additional staff will be taken on to
                   cope with the work—40 at Wokingham, 75 at Bracknell and 20 at Crowthorne. Extra
                   vehicles have also been booked.

                                                  METHODIST GUILD
                      Guest speaker at Tuesday’s meeting of the  Wokingham Methodist Guild was the
                   Rev. A.R. Burch, who gave a talk on a tour of Holland, the Rhineland, Bavaria and
                   Austria. The meeting was under the chairmanship of Miss Sylvia Brown.


                                             MAYOR AT CHEESE PARTY
                      Berkshire branch of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy held a cheese and wine
                   party at the Wokingham Town Hall on Monday. Proceeds were in aid of the Society’s
                   benevolent fund. Guest-of-honour was the Mayor, Dr. Phyllys Pigott.

                                                  SALE MAKES £300
                      The  Corpus  Christi  Hall,  Station  Road,  Wokingham  was  packed  on  Saturday
                   afternoon for the annual Christmas sale organised by the church. This realised a profit
                   of over £300 for the school building fund.

                                                  FACTORY MOVING
                      Messrs. Metalair, Ltd., are to close their works in the Reading Road and at Station
                   Point, Wokingham, and build a new factory on the Eastheath Industrial Estate. It was

                   reported to the Finance Committee of the Town Council on November 8  that, after
                   considerable negotiations, the company had agreed to drop their claim for removal
                   expenses  on  two  conditions:  That  the Reading  Road  site  should  be  given  planning
                   permission for a petrol-filling station, restaurant etc., and that the Station Road site
                   should be bought by the County Council. The planning committees of both authorities
                   had met and agreed on the conditions.

                                              THE LATE MR. E. PERKINS
                      A well-known businessman in Wokingham, Mr. Eric Perkins, of 22, Broad Street,
                   Wokingham, died in Battle Hospital, Reading, on Wednesday last week, aged 83. Mr.
                   Perkins, founder of the garage in Broad Street, Wokingham was also for many years
                   in the cycle trade in Denmark Street, Wokingham, and latterly associated with Messrs.
                   Wokingham  Radio  Relay.  A  keen  Methodist,  he  held  numerous  appointments
                   connected  with  the  Wokingham  Church—where  the  funeral  service  was  held  on
                   (Thursday) before cremation at Reading. Mr. Perkins is survived by his widow, a son
                   and daughter.

                      Before  the  annual  free  Christmas  show  for  regulars  at  the  Saturday  matinee  for
                   children at the Ritz Cinema, Wokingham, on Christmas Eve there was a fancy dress
                   competition
