HOSPITAL CONCERT
                      Patients at the Wokingham Hospital enjoyed a variety concert on Saturday given by
                   a company from the staff of Messrs. Huntley and Palmers, of Reading.

                                              TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
                      Members  of  Wokingham  Evening  Townswomen’s  Guild  heard  a  talk  about  the
                   history of Wokingham, given by the Town Clerk, Mr. L. Goddard Smalley, at their
                   meeting on Tuesday.

                                                  VISIT TO LAPLAND
                      Members  of  the  Wokingham  Methodist  Guild  heard  an  illustrated  talk  about
                   Lapland at their meeting on Tuesday. It was given by Mr. Peter Shanks, who visited
                   the country with friends during the summer.

                                         THE LATE.-COL. A.F.W. ANDERSON
                      The death occurred at his home, “Fernleigh,” The Terrace, Wokingham, on Sunday.
                   Lt.-Col. Andrew F.W. Anderson was the second husband of the former Miss Edna
                   Martin, a daughter of the late Ald. W. Martin, a former Freeman of the Borough.


                                                   COLDEST NIGHT
                      The lowest temperature recorded in Wokingham since records were started in 1948
                   was registered on Saturday night--6°F. Maximum temperature that day was 28°F the
                   same as on Sunday, when the minimum was 16°F.

                                                    ROTARY CLUB
                      The  speaker  at  Monday’s  meeting  of  Wokingham  Rotary  Club  was  Rotarian  C.
                   Culver, who gave a talk about Rotary in the South of France.

                                                    FOR REFUGEES
                      Wokingham  Baptist  Young  Wives  have  raised  £180  in  their  Aid  for  Refugees
                   campaign.

                                                    WINE MAKING
                      Mrs. N.P. Williams was officially installed to the office of enrolling member of the
                   St. Paul’s, Wokingham, Mothers’ Union at a special service on Thursday. The service
                   was conducted by her husband, the rector of St. Paul’s, the Rev. J.J. Williams. At the
                   same service Mrs Halesworth became leader of the young wives’ group.

                      Wokingham branch British Legion, women’s section, held their 36  birthday party
                   at the Legion Hall on Wednesday last week. Chairman Mrs. D. Murray told members
                   that  the  president,  Lady  V.  Villiers,  was  unable  to  attend  because  of  a  shoulder
                   injury—but she sent birthday greetings. Members enjoyed a selection of colour films
                   including those of Miss Gott when in Holland with the Girl Guides, followed by Mr.
                   and Mrs. Francis with films of Canterbury, Bournemouth, Cambridge Colleges, the
                   Lake District etc. An iced birthday cake in Legion colours was served at tea-time and
                   cut by the chairman.
