The Hope and Anchor – Station Road
Up to 1901
The right hand side of the Hope and Anchor still occupies this 15th century hall-house, while the
other end of the bar was formerly a smithy, but this was not built until the second half of the 19th
century, after the pub had been in existence for some years. The garage and entrance to the garden
were also built about the same date. It was built in 1840 and in 1901, at the time of this
photograph, it was owned by Baker, Powell and Co., the Wokingham Brewery that was based in
Broad Street.
