The following photograph taken this year shows the landlord and some of his customers
outside the Metropolitan beer shop in Rose Street. The owner is wearing the bowler hat and
shirtsleeves.

Clark & Son grocers took over from Alexander Grover also a grocer at 18 Market Place.
Clark and Son was one of a number of grocers that occupied these premises in Denmark
Street. The associated photograph was taken in 1900. The building was also where the first
edition of Wokingham’s first newspaper "Wokingham & Bracknell Gazette" was first
produced and the building has since been rebuilt. It is now Specsavers.
