The Bush Hotel became the first premises in Wokingham to install an electric light.

               1926
               Arthur Hambleton joined his brother William J Hambleton, who was a master bread baker at
               4 Market Place.
               W H Cox took over the grocery at 12 Market Place and became a greengrocer.

               Misses Macready & Woods ran The Coffee House until 1939 at 11 Market Place, now
               Vodaphone.






















               The 18th century building was used as a garage up to 1910 and was a wire rope shop in the
               early 1920s.
               1927
               Walker Stores took over the property at 29 Market Place and the frontage had the words
               “Provision Merchants” and “Family Grocer”. This business ran until 1968 and is now the
               Nando’s restaurant.
               The Reading Co-operative Society, grocer & butcher, took over 36 Market Place, having
               moved from Broad Street. It is now Superdrug.
               John Eighteen Ltd took over the fishmongers at 40 Market Place (now Boots) and was there
               until 1949. The associated photograph was taken in the mid 1920s.
