commission for a short time as 2 Lieut. In the Berks. Yeomanry but recently
resigned on account of delicate health.

THE NATIONAL EGG COLLECTION
From Wokingham and District Depot 102 dozen eggs have been sent this Easter to
the above. The following churches have contributed: St. Paul’s, Wokingham 83;
Barkham 107; and 2s. 6d. (spent on eggs); All Saints’, Binfield, 140; St. Marks,
Binfield, 19; Hurst Church and Hurst collection180. The weekly collection is well
supported. Eggs are sent every Tuesday morning, and are gratefully received any time
on Monday by Mrs. Dunne, controller, Toutley Hall, Wokingham.
WOMEN AND WORK ON THE LAND
A lecture on woman and work on the land was given in the Town Hall, Wokingham,
by Miss Pott, one of the party of Berkshire ladies who went to France to study the
work of the French women. Mr. P. Sale occupied the chair. Miss Pott gave an
interesting and instructive account of her visit to France, and illustrated it with lantern
slides. She urged all the women who could to do everything that is possible to
increase the production of vegetables, etc., and also to enter their names on a register
so that the farmers may know who is willing to undertake such work. Miss Cruttwell,
of “Wroxton,” South Drive, Wokingham, has charge of the register.
THE TRIBUNAL
The local tribunal for the Borough of Wokingham was held in the Town Hall on
Monday. Present: The Mayor, in the chair, Sir Henry Kirk, Alderman Sale,
Councillors Blake and Hammond, Mr. George Beale, with Mr. Vincent Craig
(military representative), and Mr. J.H. Elliston Clifton (clerk and Town Clerk).
The Home and Colonial Stores, Ltd. applied for exemption for their local manager,
Mr. W.J. Ivory, and were represented by one of the chief district superintendents, who
gave evidence that his form had given every facility for their employees to join the
Army or Navy, and even now were only making applications in respect of their
branch managers.—Conditional exemption was allowed.
Frederick David Ayres married, of Langborough Road, Wokingham, upholster, etc.
claimed exemption on business grounds, as if he were taken it would mean losing all
his trade, his only support—Three months’ exemption.
