                      Mr. and Mrs. Mead, of Broad Street, have received news of the death of their son
                   Lieut.  Mead,  killed  in  action.  Deceased,  who  came  over  with  the  first  Canadian
                   Contingent, was a promising soldier and had seen much service at the front. Some
                   time ago he was promoted to Lieutenant, and had recently transferred to the R.F.A.

                                    WOKINGHAM WAR SAVINGS ASSOCIATION
                      An association, called the Wokingham War Savings Association, has recently been
                   started for the purpose of purchasing War Savings Certificates. An investor may pay
                   in each week any number of sixpences he pleases and when 15s. 6d. has been paid in
                   he  will  be  allotted  a  certificate  worth  £1  in  five  years  (Government  security).  The
                   committee consists of the Mayor (chairman), the Rev. B. Long, Miss C.F.M. Burnaby
                   Dyott,  Mr.  H.A.  Hammond,  Mr.  J.H.  Byard  (treasurer),  and  the  Rev.  Nichols
                   (secretary).

                                     DR. BARNARDO’S BOYS AT WOKINGHAM
                      Dr. Barnardo’s Musical Boys, under Mr. A.J. Mayers (deputation secretary), gave
                   an interesting entertainment at the Electric Cinema (kindly lent by the directors) on
                   Friday last week. The theatre was open at 4.15 for young people, and at 7.30, when
                   the  Mayor,  Alderman  H.C.  Mylne,  took  the  chair.  The  boys  gave  a  unique
                   presentation  of  the  National  Anthem  of  the  Allies,  and  selections  were  played  by
                   Highland  pipers  in  full  dress.  A  special  show  of  animated  pictures  was  given,
                   including  “Tiny  Tots  at  work  and  play,”  “Sports,”  Girls’  Drill,”  “Emigrants  off  to
                   Canada,” “Training in the Workshops,” “At sea; man overboard; the rescue,” “Heroes
                   from Canada,” etc.

                                          WOKINGHAM LOCAL TRIBUNAL
                      Mr. W.H. Wheeler of 54 Peach Street, bootmaker and repairer, applied for a renewal
                   of his certificate and was granted exemption to November 1.
                      Mr. Robert Kirkby, 15, Oxford Road, grocer and provision merchant—November 1.
                      Mr. Arthur Smalley, Forest Road, Binfield, brewer’s drayman.—November 1.
                      Mr. White, of Markham House, applied for exemption for Joseph Pocock, chauffeur
                   and gardener.—No exemption.
                      Mr. Albert Charman, of Oakleigh Cottage, Wiltshire Road, butler, was granted was
                   granted exemption from combatant service and from non-combatant also, provided he
                   takes work of national importance.

                                                      TRIBUNAL
                      At the Wokingham Borough Tribunal on Tuesday there were present: The Mayor
                   (Alderman H.C. Mylne), Sir Henry Kirk, Alderman Sale, Councillor Blake and Mr. G.
                   Beald;  Mr.  V.  Craig  (military  representative)  and  Mr.  Clifton  (clerk).  E.  Stevens,

                   Barkham Road, hairdresser etc., was granted exemption until October 8  on business
                   grounds.

                   On  Wednesday  the  choirboys  of  All  Saints’  Church  were  given  an  outing.
                   Accompanied by the Rev. P.R.S. Nicholls and Mr. H.R. Eady (organist) they went by
                   water from reading to Henley, where they visited Friar Park.
