CINEMA PROGRAMMES
On the first three days of the week at the Ritz, “Ramona” is showing, photographed
entirely in colour. Loretta Young has the title role, with Don Ameche as her Indian
lover, and the pathetic love story and natural beauty of the scenery provide interest for
all. The supporting film is “Back to Nature.” At the week-end “The General Died at
Dawn” is the chief feature. Gary Cooper is cast as a soldier of fortune, and Madeleine
Carroll as an adventuress who plots against him and later falls in love with him in this
exciting tale of Chinese bandits. The second feature is “Come Closer, Folks.”
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, “Millions,” with Gordon Harker, is the
featured film at the Savoy. The story deals with the efforts of a self-made financial
power to break into society in spite of the efforts of his snobbish business rival. The
second film, “Two in a Crowd,” is a romance starring Joan Bennett. The clever
satirical comedy, “My Man Godfrey,” in which William Powell portrays a down-and-
out who becomes butler to a rich, but mad, family, is showing during the second part
of the week. Carole Lombard is the daughter who causes the most trouble and finishes
up as Godfrey’s wife. Also in the programme is “Crash Donovan,” starring Jack Holt.

commissionaire of the Union Cinema Ritz, in full uniform, were escorted through the
town by a battalion of soldiers (Wokingham Territorials) to Union cinema’s Savoy,
where papers in connection with the film, “O.H.M.S.,” were picked up. The ceremony
was performed in real military style; one of the officers made a full inspection of the
guard. Full sentry guard was stationed round the theatre, complete with machine guns,
etc. Traffic was held up for a considerable time during the march and changing of the
guard, owing to the street being blocked by hundreds of sightseers.
UNION CINEMA RITZ
