Secretary” presents George Brent as the very serious-minded editor of a health
magazine, who practises what he preaches. Jean Arthur is the prim proprietress of a
secretarial school, who is forced to take a job as the editor’s secretary because there is
no suitable pupil available. When the editor becomes ill she fulfils his duties, and
makes the magazine much more human and infinitely more alluring. The editor’s
anger melts when his chief approves the innovations, and much later he discovers his
love for his secretary. Difficulty and misunderstanding arise before a satisfactory
solution is reached. The second feature is “Alibi For Murder,” with William Gargan in
the leading role. On Thursday “The beloved Vagabond” is being shown, with Maurice
Chevalier as W.J. Lock’s hero, Paragot, in a gesture of self-sacrifice, surrenders his
English sweetheart to a crafty rival, and adopts an urchin, whom he takes on a
Continental walking tour. Desmond Tester is the boy and Betty Stockfeld the lady.
“Longest Night” is the second feature, starring Florence Rice and Robert Young.

                                               UNION CINEMA SAVOY
Mae West’s entertaining film, “Go West Young Man,” was the chief film at the
early part of the week. “Secret Patrol” was in support. “Champagne Walttz,” with
Jack Oakie is showing today and it is a film which includes some delightful music.
The supporting film is “Postal Inspector,” starring Ricardo Costes—“Men Are Not
Gods,” which is showing on Monday has an unusual plot. Ann Williams is secretary
to the most famous dramatic critic in London. One night London is presented with a
new production of “Othello,” with a newcomer Edmond Davey, in the title role, and
when at night the famous critic returns to his office and dictates to his secretary his
criticism of the production, it is a scathing attack on the young actor. Just after the
critic has left Ann receives a visit from Barbara, wife of Davey, who appears in the
play as Desdemona. Responding to her impassioned plea, Ann re-writes the criticism
as a hymn of praise for Davey. Later the grateful Barbara invites Ann to her home to
meet Davey, and unwittingly Ann and Davey are attracted to each other. There is a
startling climax in which one woman saves the life of the other and loses the man they
both love. Miriam Hopkins, Gertrude Lawrence and Sebastian Shaw are the three
central figures. “Gangster’s Bride” is the supporting film.00”NO Exit” is showing on
