The 22 anniversary of the Wokingham Women’s Meeting was celebrated on
Sunday at the Methodist Church, Rose Street. The preacher was the resident minister,
the Rev. W.H. Brackenbury. A special meeting was held in the afternoon when Mrs.
Edgar Newbery was chairman and the speaker was Mrs. M Bird, of Windsor. Miss
D.M. Drake, of Reading, was the soloist. On Tuesday, in the Town Hall, the annual
concert was held. The Mayor of Wokingham Alderman F.J. Barrett, presided, and the
Mayoress was also present. Mr. Harrison Slater (of Derby) was in excellent form with
his dramatic recitals and impersonations, and well-deserved applause marked the
conclusion of his recital. Miss A.G. Lake and Mr. L.E. Lake (of Slough) contributed
excellent vocal items. Miss M. Webb was the accompanist. Mr R.C. Wright, of
                   Reading, mystified with his conjuring.

                                                UNION CINEMA, RITZ
Bette Davis, supported by George Brent, appears in “The Golden Arrow,” showing
today. The supporting film is “Clarence.” On Monday, Ritz patrons will be stirred by
the great film, “The Charge of the Light Brigade.” This film took 18 months to plan
and produce, and has been described as the picture of the year. Errol Flynn and Olivia
De Haviland head a grand cast of British players. The story concerns two brothers
who are in love with the same girl. She is betrothed to one and admires his courage,
but her heart is really with the other. Not until the eve of the Crimea is the problem
solved. In the distinguished cast are: Henry Stephenson, Nigel Bruce, Donald Crisp,
David Niven, C. Henry Gordon and G.P. Huntley. For the latter part of the week
“Hideaway Girl” is being shown. It is a delightful comedy of mistaken identity, with a
bride wrongly suspected as a criminal. The supporting film is “Let Them Live.”
