NATIONAL SERVICE RALLY
Lord Lieutenant At Wokingham
ENCOURAGING RESPONSE TO APPEAL
“I am going to put a simple question to you. I will count three, and then I want your
answer. Now then, you people of Wokingham and district—will you help? One….”
But the sound of the Lord Lieutenant’s voice was drowned by a tremendous “Yes!”
roared by the biggest assembly seen in the Market Place, Wokingham, for years. It
was a remarkable response to the first National Service rally staged in Berkshire,
excluding reading.
