CIVILIAN RESPIRATORS
The public of Wokingham are asked to attend the British Legion Hall, or the Church
House, Easthampstead Road, with their respirators, in order to have contex extension
pieces fitted. They should attend on days according to the initial letter of their
surname, and the times and days will be found in our advertisement columns.

                                                HEROES OF DUNKIRK
In the list of names published last week of Wokingham-born men who took part in
the evacuation of Dunkirk being honoured by presentations by the Mayor, the name of
Private T. Barnes was unfortunately omitted. Private Barnes is still reported missing,
though his relatives entertain hopes that they will receive news that he is a prisoner of
                   war.

                   Fri 30th Aug
                                             WHAT ABOUT A SPITFIRE?
Will You Contribute and Engine or a Rivet?
Is there any reason why this district should not contribute to the National Effort by
                   providing a Spitfire?
Other parts have done so, and we venture to think there is sufficient spare money to
buy one. The raids during the past week should be an incentive to everyone should
give what they can to provide the fighter planes for our gallant airmen to continue
their splendid work in bringing down enemy raiders.
Every Spitfire provided in this way will even up the odds which in the past our
airmen have been up against. Man for man the British pilots and airmen can knock
spots off the “Jerries,” and if the necessary machines are only secured the number of
raiders who will venture to cross these shores will grow less and less. Especially will
this be the case when we have an overwhelming superiority of fighters and bombers
which will keep the Germans busy repelling our attacks on the other side of the Rhine.
So everyone should help along the good work by subscribing to the fund.
                                              Who will provide these parts?
The cost of the various parts of a Spitfire are given below. Who will help?
