PUBLIC AIR RAID SHELTERS AT WOKINGHAM
The Town council has forwarded us the following information regarding Public Air
Raid Shelters which have been provided.
Our readers should cut this out from the paper and keep it handy for use in
emergency.
Public Air Raid Shelters have been provided in the following positions:-
BROAD STREET, adjoining the Post Office. Above ground shelter for 50 persons.
PEACH STREET, adjoining the Welcome Inn. Above ground shelter for 50 persons.
DENMARK STREET, entrance adjoining Hammertons, Basement shelter for 90
persons
DENMARK STREET, opposite the Clinic. Underground shelter for 30 persons.
ROSE STREET, entrance adjoining the Evacuees’ Rest Room. Above ground shelter
for 50 persons.
LONDON ROAD, adjoining Richardson and Starr’s Garage. Above ground shelter
for 50 persons.
GOODCHILD ROAD. PLAYING FIELD, entrance opposite Wescott Road
School. Above ground shelter for 50 persons.
SOUTHERN RAILWAY STATION YARD, Above ground shelter for 50
persons, (not yet completed).
The shelters are provided for the use of persons in the streets, when Air Raid
warning is given and who are unable to return home quickly.
Persons living in nearby houses should NOT leave their homes to enter the
shelters.

SCRAP METAL
A further consignment of scrap metal from the dump at Embrook has been
despatched by Mr. Barrett, of Messrs. Froud and Barrett, of Embrook, and 24s. has
been handed to the Red Cross Fund.
GOOD RESULTS
The “ABC Patrons and Staff Hurricane and Spitfire Fund,” which was opened
recently at the Ritz Cinema, Wokingham, and the Regal Cinema, Bracknell, has
resulted in the following amounts being raised: Wokingham, £62 3s. 6d.; Bracknell,
£21 19s. 11d.
