TERRITORIAL ARMY PARADE
Since the Territorial Army recruiting campaign started there has been no response in
Wokingham to the appeals and the local strength still stands at five officers and five
other ranks. In an effort to stimulate recruiting for the T.A. and the R.A.F.V.R., the
th
4/6 Battalion, the Royal Berkshire Regiment, T.A., held a parade and a series of
displays at Wokingham on Sunday.
nd
The parade formed up in Rectory Road, and, led by the band of the 2 Cadet
Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment, marched to the Market Place, where the salute
was taken by the Mayor of Wokingham (the Hon. Mrs. Corfield) who was
accompanied by General Sir Andrew Thorne (Deputy Lieutenant of Berkshire) and
rd
Major General C. F. C. Coleman (G.O.C. 43 Wessex Infantry Division).
The parade marched to the Langborough Road recreation ground, where a series of
displays were given. The display comprised equipment used by the T.A., and a
R.E.M.E. team showed how to strip a 25-pounder gun. The R.A.F.V.R. (“week-end”
flyers) from Woodley flew over the ground during the afternoon in Tiger Moth
aircraft.

Town Hall on Wednesday. Mr. F.J. Barrett presiding. The District Commissioner, Mr.
R.B.J. Moffitt, reported a loss in membership of eight, largely due to the closing down
of another Bear Wood Troop. He said the problem of obtaining Scout Leaders was
becoming increasingly difficult. In his report the secretary, Mr. A.S.C. Trench, paid
tribute to the Mayor of Wokingham, the Hon. Mrs. Corfield, for her financial help
during the year. Whist the financial position was satisfactory the treasurer, Mr. A.H.L.
Beale, warned the meeting that they could not expect as many subscriptions during
the present financial year. The election of officers resulted: Chairman, Mr. F.J.
Barrett; vice-chairman, Captain Henderson; hon. treasurer, Mr. A.H.L. Beale; auditor,
Mr. F. Payne; hon secretary, Mr. A.S.C. Trench. The executive committee was re-
