                                               BELL RINGERS’ OUTING
                      Bell ringers from St. Paul’s Church, Wokingham, and All Saints’. Wokingham, had
                   a  day  out  on  Saturday,  when  they  rang  peals  of  triple  grandsires  at  Boyn  Hill,
                   Maidenhead, Farnham Royal, Beaconsfield and Marlow.

                                                   “GUNNER WEEK”
                      Wokingham’s”  Gunner  Week”,  held  recently  by  the  local  branch  of  the  Royal
                   Artillery Association, realised a total profit of £44 15s. 2½d., which has been sent to
                   the Royal Artillery Benevolent Fund. Of this amount £18 11s. 2½d. was raised by the
                   flag day.

                                                     LEGION FETE
                      A stall containing articles made by disabled men was a feature of the fete organised
                   by the women’s section of the British Legion (Wokingham branch) at West Lodge,
                   Wokingham,  on  Wednesday.  Mrs.  Harris,  of  the  disabled  men’s  stall  in  London,
                   addressed the meeting. Lady Victoria Villiers (president of the section) was among
                   those present. All proceeds were devoted to branch funds.

                                              OBITUARY, MR. BAGLEY
                     A  retired  school  master,  Mr.  Reginald  Bagley,  of  “Clopton,”  Eastheath  Avenue,
                   Wokingham, died on Monday, aged 62. He was at  St.  Paul’s  School, Wokingham,
                   from 1922 until  he retired in  1945. An enthusiastic beekeeper, he was at  one time
                   secretary  of  the  Berkshire  Beekeepers’  Association.  Mr.  Bagley  also  took  a  keen
                   interest in the Wokingham branch of the Workers’ Educational Association. He leaves
                   a widow, two sons and a daughter. The funeral was at St. Paul’s Church, Wokingham,
                   on Thursday.

                                            SWEET RATIONING RETURNS

                      Sweets off the ration since April 24 , will again be rationed from August 14 . This
                   was one of several changes in the rationing scheme announced by Sir Stafford Cripps,
                                                                                    th
                   Chancellor of the Exchequer, in the House of Commons on July 14 , when he opened
                   the debate on the economic situation. Sweets will be rationed at 4 oz. per head a week,
                   and the D and F coupons, on the personal points pages in the current ration books will
                   be used, each coupon being worth 2 oz. Those available during ration period number

                   four, which begins on August 14 , will be the four coupons marked D4 and the four
                   marked E4.

                      On the same day on which sweet rationing is to be re-introduced, August 14 , the
                   sugar ration will be reduced from 10 ozs, to 8 ozs. From last Sunday the butter ration
                   was increased by 1 oz. to 4 ozs weekly. This brings the total fats ration to 10 oz. as the

                   margarine and cooking fat ration is unchanged. From July 31  the meat ration is also
                   to be increased from 1s. 1d. to 1s 4d. per week, and the bacon ration is to be increased

                   by 1 oz. to 3 ozs. weekly from August 21 .
                      Sir Stafford also announced that it was necessary to reduce the 110 million dollars
                   originally provided for tobacco by 20 million dollars. Manufacturers in general would
                   in due course have to make some reduction in supplies to the public, probably not
                   more than 5%.
