time  in  50  years.  He  also  conveyed  greetings  from  Ald.  W.T.  Martin.  Mr.  Reeves
                   added  that,  for  the  first  time  in  a  number  of  years  the  chairman  of  the  House
                   Committee, Major A.R. Hunter was unable to be present. Mr. Reeves sent greetings to
                   Mr. H. Beesley, a bed patient, who is 102 years of age. Mrs. Norris also conveyed
                   greetings to all, with good wishes for the future.
                      After tea the nursing staff, under the direction of the Matron, gave a variety concert
                   which was relayed by microphone to all unable to attend.
                      On Christmas Day there was again special fare, whilst on Tuesday the annual staff
                   dinner and social took place.

                                                 OLD TIME DANCING
                      Old-time  dancing  was  again  a  popular  attraction  at  St.  Paul’s  Parish  Room  on
                   Wednesday.
                                                   CHURCH SOCIAL
                      St. Paul’s Young Wives’ Fellowship and Mothers’ Union combined for a social in
                   the Parish Room on Thursday last week.



                                                      DARTS WIN
                      In the national darts teams’ championship (third round) The Three Frogs defeated
                   the Comrades’ Club Reading Ladies, 2—0.

                                                        SOCIAL
                      A social, organised by the Wokingham Players, was held at the Wokingham club on
                   Saturday. Mr. L. Freeman was M.C.

                                                   SUDDEN DEATH
                      Mr.  Thomas  Claude  Edwards,  for  over  eight  years  manager  of  Pither  and  Sons,
                   butchers, of Broad Street, Wokingham, collapsed in the shop on Friday morning last
                   week and died shortly afterwards. A post mortem examination revealed that death was
                   due to heart failure. Mr. Edwards, who was 49 years old, leaves a widow, one son and
                   two daughters. Cremation was at Reading on Tuesday.

                                               PRODUCE ASSOCIATION
                      Wokingham  Produce  Association  held  their  annual  social  at  the  Town  Hall,
                   Wokingham, on Wednesday. Ald. N.C. Lawrence, chairman of the association acted
                   as M.C., and a programme of entertainment was presented by local people, including
                   a song recital by Mr. Harrison (baritone) who was accompanied at the piano by Mrs.
                   White, from Glebelands. Mr. J. Woodason gave impressions of radio personalities and
                   a short play, “The Crimson Coconut,” by Ian Hay, was presented by All Saints’ Youth
                   Club.

                                       FUNERAL OF MRS. L.C.B.L. STRATTON
                      The  funeral  took  place  on  Monday,  at  St.  Paul’s  Church,  Wokingham,  of  Mrs.
                   Louise Cecilia Bazalgette Lucas Stratton, aged 96, of Saxham Lodge, Wokingham.
                   The  Rev.  Gordon  Kenworthy  officiated.  Mrs.  Stratton  was  the  widow  of  the  Rev.
