EXPENSIVE WEATHER
The exceptionally heavy rainstorm on Saturday afternoon, and the unsettled weather
over the whole of the holiday period, reduced the profits of the Martin’s Swimming
Pool by about £200 it was estimated this week by the pool manager, Mr. C.H.J.
Mackie. This was, for Mr. Mackie, his last Bank Holiday at the pool, where he has
been manager for the past six years, as his resignation comes into effect at the end of
this month. Mr. Mackie said he is looking forward to having a summer holiday—the
first in 13 years.

TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
Guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Wokingham Townswomen’s Guild,
held in the Wokingham Club on Tuesday, was Mr. A.R. Lucas. He spoke about
English wildlife.
“ORANGE-BOX T.T.”
An “Orange-Box T.T.” will be one of the features of the Wokingham Carnival. This
is being run by Boy Scouts, and will be open to Scouts from all over the county. Entry
forms can be obtained from the organising secretary, 101, Finchampstead Road,
Wokingham.

It has been announced that Mr. S.G. Butcher has been appointed acting Group Scout

Master of the 1 Wokingham (Mayor’s Own) Group of Boy Scouts, in succession to
Mr. J.B. Freeland, who recently moved to Guildford. Mr. V.L. Smart will be the Scout
Master.
NEW HOME WANTED

The 1 Wokingham (Mayor’s Own) Scout Group are under notice to leave their
present headquarters by the end of the month, and urgently require somewhere to
store their camping equipment. Anyone with a shed not being used is asked to
communicate with Mr. John Butcher, of 8, Peach Street, Wokingham.
FLOODS
Saturday’s heavy rain (.88 in.) resulted in flooding in Patten Ash Drive, Rances
Lane, Waterloo Road, Molly Millars Lane, Wiltshire Road, and at Toutley. The River
Emm rose until water reached the height of the bridge in Finchampstead Road.
Saturday’s rain was light in comparison with the previous Saturday, when 1.26 in. fell
in the Wokingham area.
WOKINGHAM JUNIOR SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB
On Saturday the Wokingham Junior Sports and Social Club paid a visit to West
Reading Youth Club for a games tournament table tennis, darts and billiards being
played. After very close and sportingly contested games the Wokingham club proved
winners by 14 games to 12. Mr. David Goddard expressed the thanks of the
Wokingham members for the welcome extended.
