With a Recommendation, they must apply of Mr. Cruttwell, when, being proper
Subjects, they will, on paying Seven Shillings, be inoculated and supplied with
Medicines.
During the progress of Infection, they must wait on Mr. Cruttwell, from time to time
if he shall appoint; till on sickening, Mr. Cruttwell will visit them, and afterwards as
Occasion requires.
Gentlemen who chuse to encourage the Undertaking, may by subscribing,
recommend what Numbers they please.
I have always thought that a general inoculation must be a very great Benefit to the
Individuals of Society, as well as the Community in general. In the years 1767, 8 and
9, I inoculated a great Number of Patients recommended by the Rev. M. Wilson of
Binfield, Mr. Webb, Mr. Lyford, Mr. Berry, Mrs. Hewitt, &c. as well as many others
by Petition. Some were inoculated at a House I kept for that Purpose, and all supplied
with Medicines, &c. without the least Fee or Gratuity whatever. The Small-pox
declining soon afterwards, there was no Occasion to continue the Practice, nor indeed
could I, in my small Station of Life, afford to pursue a Practice made expensive by the
Numbers. Happy if I can be able to ease one aching Heart, I have brought the Price
down low as I am convinced the Small-pox now rages in neighbouring Parishes,
where many poor reside, who are ill able to pay the customary Fee.
N.B. Mr. Cruttwell has a House open for the Reception of Patients.
