FIRE AT A FARM
Between four and five am on Tuesday a cart shed of Matthews Green Farm which
had just been vacated by Mr. George Whitfield who is removing to Woodcote was
found to be on fire. Members of the Wokingham Voluntary Fire Brigade took the
engine over but found no water in the pond from the drought. The shed with a trap
and a number of farm implements left over from the sale was completely destroyed. It
will be remembered that the farmhouse was burned out at the beginning of the year.

ENTERTAINMENT AT EMBROOK

those who took part were the Rev. H.M. Walter, rector, and Mrs. Walter, Miss Walter,
Miss Barron, Rev. R. von Muller-Nixon, Mr. J. Breach, Mr. Harvey—members of the

ROBBERY AT THE ROEBUCK INN
A daring robbery was affected during Monday night at the “roebuck,” Market-place,
when money and property to the value of about £70 were taken from the premises. It
appears that at about 9.40 p.m. a supposed “commercial traveller” drove up to the inn
in a pony trap, and asked for accommodation for the night. On Tuesday morning the
man ordered breakfast, and stated that he had business at the Post-office, and should
be returning in a few minutes. As he failed to do so, suspicion was aroused, and it was
found that he had decamped. It appears that the man booked to Bracknell station by
the 9.58 train, but did not go by rail, but hired a fly at the railway Hotel, and drove to
Reading, and in consequence no trace of him up to the present has been found.
The pony and trap were left at the inn and have since been claimed by their rightful
owner. The stolen property includes a considerable sum in gold, bank notes etc.
besides jewellery.
