                                               AIR RAID CONFERENCE
                     At  the  recent  conference  concerning  Air  Raid  Precautions,  Wokingham  Town
                   Council was represented by Alderman J.B. Eustace, Councillors C. Goddard, Beale
                   and Miss D. Wescott.

                      The Mayor of Wokingham was in bed on Thursday with a slight cold.

                                           THE MAYOR’S DISTRESS FUND
                                      ALLOCATION OF SEED POTATOES, ETC.
                      As in past years, a limited allocation of seed potatoes will be made to applicants
                   who  have  been  unemployed  for  considerable  periods  during  the  past  year.
                   Applications should be made in writing to the hon. secretary of the fund, before the
                   end of the present month, giving the following details: name and address; position and
                   size of garden or allotment, and if an allotment, the number; length of unemployment
                   during the past year; quantity and kind of potatoes requested (only a limited kind are
                   available); if in lieu of a portion of potatoes, other garden seeds are desired, and, if so,
                   what are requested. It should be noted that no applicant will receive more than 56 lbs.
                   of potatoes, or the equivalent, and allocations in quantity will be made according to
                   the discretion of the committee. It is anticipated that this will be the last allocation of
                   potatoes from the fund.

                                                   TOWN COUNCIL
                      The Estates Sub-committee reported—
                      The  question  of  the  provision  of  accommodation  for  the  Mayor  and  the  council
                   committees in the Town Hall, referred to your sub-committee by the General Purposes
                   Committee, was considered, and it was agreed to recommend: (a) That the bank room
                   be  re-decorated  and  fitted  with  cupboards;  (b)  that  the  committee  room  be  re-
                   decorated and fitted up for use as a committee room; (c) that the Council Chamber be
                   re-decorated and used as the Mayor’s Parlour. It was further agreed to recommend
                   that the borough surveyor be instructed to submit estimates for each room separately
                   and that the work be carried out as funds allow, and that new curtains be provided for
                   the Council Chamber: Paragraphs (a) (b) and (c) were referred back by the Estates
                   Committee for further consideration.

                                                  NEW POLICE CHIEF
                      Supt.  E.J.  Braby,  of  Wantage,  commences  his  work  as  Superintendent  of  the
                   Wokingham  Division  at  the  end  of  this  week.  Supt.  S.F.  Butler  is  making  good
                   progress after his recent serious illness.

                                                  A KIND THOUGHT
                      It was a kind thought on the part of the management of the Savoy Electric Theatre,
                   Wokingham,  to  entertain  about  150  poor  and  blind  people  from  the  locality  at  the
                   theatre  on  Tuesday.  At  a  matinee  performance  of  “On  Wings  of  Song,”  in  which
