ceaseless determination led to the vote being finally granted to women over the
age of 30 in February 1918.

In 2018, Wokingham was very much a commuter town with many residents
travelling, in particular to London Waterloo. The journey took on average 68
minutes and during the peak times was served by 2 to 3 trains per hour.
K Wokingham Cultural Month May 2018 – What’s On Guide.
Each May, Wokingham Town Council celebrates and promotes the depth and
breadth of arts and cultural activity within Wokingham. From art groups to live
music, talks to theatre, there is something for everyone.
L Wokingham Theatre – What’s On Guide 2018
Wokingham Theatre, founded in 1947 and based in Cantley Park off Twyford
Road, is a thriving amateur group. The theatre presents 8 'main' shows each year
in a season that runs from mid-September through to the end of July.
M World War I Remembrance
1) Wokingham Remembers – A heritage trail of the War Memorials of
Wokingham Borough Towns and Parishes.
Wokingham has a long tradition of supporting the World War I Remembrance Day,
a Memorial Day observed in Commonwealth of Nations member states since the
end of the First World War to remember the members of their armed forces who
have died in the line of duty. Raising funds for the armed forces via the selling of
“poppies” is part of Wokingham’s heritage.
2014 represented the 100 year anniversary of the beginning of World War I and as
a result this heritage guide was produced by the Town and Parish Councils
documenting the 20 memorials within the borough. In 2018 the banners that were
created were brought together again to mark the centenary of the end of the war.
2) WWI Centenary Poppy Badge
This is a special “Poppy Badge” marking in 2018 the centenary of the ending of
World War I.
N Train Ticket
Whilst some digital tickets were available in 2018 most journeys required a paper
ticket. This is an off-peak return ticket from Reading to Wokingham costing £3.05
and has a 30% discount that were given to people over 60 years of age who had a
Senior Railcard.
