Deserted from a party of his Majesty’s 82d Regiment of Foot, recruiting at
th
Wokingham, Berks, on the 28 December, 1796.
SAMUEL MORTON, by trade a cutler, aged 25 years, 5 feet 7 inches and a
qr. High, long dark brown hair, round in visage, hassle eyes, and remarkable short
feet; was born at Sheffield, in the county of York; had on when he went off, either a
dark brown coat with plated buttons, or a light coloured coat with yellow buttons; a
light coloured linen waistcoat, and black or brown corduroy breeches.
Any person apprehending the said Deserter, and lodging him in any of his Majesty’s
gaols or guardhouses in this kingdom, shall receive One Guinea reward, (exclusive of
his Majesty’s bounty for apprehending deserters) by applying to Capt. Burnell, of the
82d Regiment, at Wokingham.

In performance of the Resolution of a General Meeting of Lieutenancy, of the

County of Berks, holden at Reading the 11 instant, and of his Majesty’s royal
approbation thereof signified to the Lord Lieutenant, MUSTERS of all persons
enrolled to serve in the Provisional Force of Cavalry for the said County, will be taken
in their several and respective Sub-divisions, at the following places, and on the
following days, at eleven o’clock in the forenoon, viz.
MAIDENHEAD,--at Woolley-Green, Maidenhead Thicket

NEWBURY—Hare and Hounds at Speen

Saturday, the 11 of February,
And the said persons are severally desired to attend accordingly, mounted on mares
or geldings of 14 hands or upwards, with bridles and saddles in their present state,
without incurring any expense thereon, it not yet being determined what sort of horse
furniture shall be adopted.
And all persons concerned are hereby required to take notice hereof
